The need to belong is the desire to form and maintain close, lasting relationships with other individuals. In the following discussion consider an example of when your need to belong led you to do what was in your best interest.

Consider the elements of attraction as outlined in the text. Apply each to platonic and romantic relationships you have had.
How do these factors differ in each?
Are they all equally important or are they weighed differently in friendship than they are in romance?
Solution
In case of platonic relationship, belongingness or need to belong may mean to exist in a mutual beneficial society for the time being. In this individual holds likes to have some kind of logical relationship as he considers the benefit of these.
However, in romantic relationship, belongingness or need to belong are purely of emotional nature in which logical benefits usually not come into play.
These relationships may have equal importance but it depends from individual to individual.
