Saturated liquid of water at 50 kPa is throttled to 25 kPa. Determine initial and final temperature. Also specific enthalpy at initial and final state.

Solution

Throttling is isenthalpic process. So enthalpy remains constant.

From steam table: Initial temperature = saturation temperature corresponding to 50 kPa pressure = 81.35 degreeC

Initial enthalpy = Final enthalpy = 340.37 KJ/kg

Final temperature = saturation temperature corresponding to 25 kPa pressure = 64.99 degreeC
