Use the vertex formula to determine the vertex of the graph

Use the vertex formula to determine the vertex of the graph of the function.

f(x) = 5x2 6x + 3

Solution

The given equation is quadratic in nature

f(x) = ax2 + bx + c

f(x) = -5x2 - 6x + 3

On comparing

a = -5, b = -6 c = 3

We find one point of vertex (h, k)

h = - b/2a = - (-6)/2(-5) = -6/10;

Put h in terms of x in function and the result is k

k = -5(-6/10)2-6(-6/10)+3

k =( -5*36/100)+36/10+3

k = 4.8

So vertex is (h, k) = (-0.6, 4.8)

Use the vertex formula to determine the vertex of the graph of the function. f(x) = 5x2 6x + 3SolutionThe given equation is quadratic in nature f(x) = ax2 + bx
