If you are given two steels one is D2 steel 155wtC1200wtCr08
If you are given two steels, one is D2 steel (1.55wt%C-12.00wt%Cr-0.8wt%Mo-0.90wt%V) and another is 430F stainless steel (0.12wt%C-17wt%Cr-1.0wt%Mn-0.75wt%Ni). Which steel would you use to make a high quality knife and what process would you use to make the knife very sharp? Please give reasons for your choices.
Solution
D2 steel
Contains about 1.5% carbon and also has chromium and molybdenum added .
430F stainless steel
carbon steel with added chromium to resist corrosion and other elements which increase performance levels but usually at the expense of inferior toughness.
That\'s why 430 F stainless steel is used because it is light in weight and give sharp edge as compare to D2 steel.
Four steps to sharp the knife..
Sharpening with the Steel File
Sharpening with the Stone
Sharpening with the Leather
