What characteristics of a project call for a predictive approach to the SDLC? 5. What characteristics of a project call for an adaptive approach to the SDLC? 6. What is a system development methodology? 7. What are the basic characteristics of the traditional approach? 8. What are the basic characteristics of the object-oriented approach? 9. What is Agile development?

Solution

1) a project is planning , implementing and undertaking with beginning and ending that produces a well defined result or product

2) the range of the sizes of the information system development projects are very large and requires many hours of work by many people and requires a period of time for several calendar years and many smaller projects still require several months to deploy.

3) system development life cycle (SDLC) is the term required to describe the process and methodology for developing and deploying and maintaining a software system and a particular sdlc will include a description of methods , tools, the techniques, models and project management process that are used in the development of a new system and it is called life cycle as it covers the entire life of the system from initial idea to put in an effective action to ongoing maintainance .

4)the characteristics of a project call for a predictive approach to the sdlc are projects are well understood , technology is well known , user requirements are well known , development methodology is well known , project team must be well experienced and well known to the systems and there are few known risks .

5) the characteristics of a project call for an adaptive approach to the sdlc are projects are not well understood ,technology is new or not well known , requirements are not very clear and the team is not well experienced with the type of sytem and methodology .

6) a system development methodology is more than just a method and it is an set of guidelines and procedures to develop a new system and included in the components of methodology would be what modelling approach to use , what tools , what techniques to do analysis and design and programming and a methodology provides the guidelines for the entire development process .

7) the traditional approach is to develop a structured development and its basic approach is to break the problem into smaller components and write programs for set of modules in heirarchical structure and by dividing the solution into smaller modules so that developers could focus on one thing at a time which was easier to write programs and maintain a software .

8) the basic characteristics of the object oriented approach that all processes and data can be objects and a program consisting of interacting objects that can communicate with each other and send messages to each other and executing internal functions ie methods

9) Agile development - agile software development is a framework for undertaking software projects and this devlopment attempts to minimize risks by developing software in short time boxes called iterations and eac iterations include all tasks necessary to release the mini increement of new functionality like planning , designing , coding , requirements , testing and documentation and agile methods emphasize real time communications , preferably face to face and overwritten documents and most agile teams include all the people necessary to finish the software and it also emphasizes working software as the primary measure of progress and it provides very little written documentation relative to other methods .
