A motor delivers 50 hp on a drive shaft to a car. If a piston should deliver that what rate of volume displacement should it have if the pressure is 1200 kPa.

Solution:-

Motor Power = 50 hp = 50 x 746 = 37300 Watt

Rate of Work (Piston Cylinder Work) = Pressure x Volume Flow Rate

Rate of Work (Piston Cylinder Work) = 1200 x 1000 x Volume Flow Rate

Equating Motor Power with Piston Cylinder Work

1200 x 1000 x Volume Flow Rate = 37300

Volume Flow Rate = (37300)/(1200 x 1000) = 0.03108333 m3/s

If we express in above volume flow rate in cc/sec = 31083.33 cc/sec
