Why do most linux commands work about the same on a Mac commputer as they do on a Linux system? I know they\'re both built on a UNIX foundation but are there any other reasons?

Also, what are some Linux commands that also work on OS X Yosemite?

Much appreciated.

Solution

Dear Student,

Linux and OS X are the two primary desktop alternatives to Windows.

Both uses a flavour Unix Linux Kernel. Both Mac and Linux uses bash(bourne again shell) as default shell.99% of the command are same on both the system.User Interface may differ in both.Hardware support is also great in both the system for Unix kernel.

The only reason why the commands work same in both is, because they both contain same shell like bash shell.

In OS X Yosemite many of the same tools are installed by default like VIM, Emacs and gcc.So the command will be same in both of the system. And package management is different as Mac Os focus on the UI and Mac App store. You won\'t find yum or apt-get installed by default.

These command also work on both linux and OS X Yosemite.

find

ssh

telnet

scp.

Thanks...!!!
