He explains, After a careful review of all information, I have discovered that Caleb has a hole in the heart muscle wall between his right and left ventricles. We call it a ventricular septal defect. That is probably why he has been so irritable and hard to The hole is not very big, but he will still need to have surgery to repair it.\" Short Answer Questions: Dr. Baker spends a long time listening to (auscultating) Caleb\'s heart. (bicuspid), pulmona a. Where on the thoracic surface do you auscultate to the tric mitral valve aortic valves? uouve pulmonar t valve Lutva The aorta b. Where do you think would be the best place to auscultate Caleb\'s abnormal heart sour your answer. Caleb has abnormal heart sounds that tipped the doctor off to a problem sounds. a. Name the normal sounds of the heart and indicate what causes these b. In relation to the normal heart sounds, when would you expect to hear the av heard? Explain your answer. The defect in Caleb\'s heart allows blood to mix between the two ventricu a. Due to this defect would you expect the blood to move from left-to-ri entricle during systole?

Solution

1 a.Tricuspid is the 4th inter costal space on the lower left sternal border.Mitral or bicuspid is the 5th intercostal space medial to left mid clavicular line. The pulmonary valve is second intercostal spaceon the left upper sternal border while the aortic valve is the second intercostal space on the right upper sternal border.

1 b.The best location to listen to the heart would be from the lower left sternal border to the right lower sternal border. as the abnormal sound results from the inter ventricular septum between the atrio ventricular valves.

2a. The normal sounds of heart are the \"Lub-Dub\" sounds. The lub sound also known as the S1 and is heard when the tricuspid and mitral valves close while the Dub sound or the S2 sound results when the aorta and pulmonary valve close.

b.The systolic murmur is due to ventricular septum defect. Vsds generate a pansystolic murmur between the S! and S2 when the atrioventricular valves close first and then the ventricles contract and blood shunts rapidly from the left ventricle to right ventricle and finally the semilunar valves close.

3a. The blood is expected to move from left to right.

4a.
In a normal baby the right ventricle shows blue colored deoxygenated blood while the left ventricle shows red colored oxygenated blood.

b. In Celebs heart the right ventricle shows both oxygenated and deoxygenated blood(blue and red) while the left ventricle shows red colored oxygenated blood.
