What is the design live load? o What limit states would you need to check? o How would you go about making these checks in terms of analysis and design? 1. To decide whether the building satisfies current code requirements we should know the size of structural elements ie beams, columns, slabs etc . we need to know about main and secondary reinforcement given in structure. It has to be checked whether the reinforcement satisfies calculation given in code. Cover to reinforcement has to be checked with respect to code.

2. Dead load of suspended roof can be calculated as sum of self weight and weight if cables

3. Code mentions standard live load to be provided for various occupansies of buildings and for various parts of building like staircase, living room , bedroom etc.

4. Limit state of failure and serviceability limit state are to be checked for.

5. Ultimate moment, shear etc are calculated and these are compared with permissible value from code. For columns minimum eccentricity to be calculated, and design to be done for load or bending moments. Spacing of ties in columns, spacing of stirrups etc to be calculated as per code.
