What is change agent?

A change agent is a person from outside or inside the organization who helps an organization to transform itself by focusing on such matters as development, , improvement, and organizational effectiveness . A change agent usually focuses on the effect of changing structures,tasks, and technologies on group relationships and interpersonal in the organization. whole focus is depend upon people in the organization and their interactions.

Role of Change Agent within an Organization -

A change agent is basically a consultant, either is from organization or brought in as an outsider consultant. They often play the role of a trainer, researcher, teacher or counselor.. Sometimes they also serve as a line manager. While some of change agents are specialize in one specific role, most of will shift their roles depending upon the needs of the organization.

1. Counselor - As a Counselor, the manager took places in touch with employees for data from helping organization members or outside the organization to generate data from the organization. The mainly purpose is to help employees find solutions to problems through analysis of valid data.

2. Trainer - In this type of role, manager helps organization members to learn how to use data to effect change. The Manager or outside agent has dual purpose as trainer i.e. to provide organization members with new set of skills for ability to retrieve, translate and use new data to solve future problems and to help organization members derive implications for action from present data.

3. Researcher - As researcher a manager may train organization members in the required skills require for valid evaluations to get maximum effectiveness of action plans that have been implemented. Further manager has to design evaluation component that can be used for solving not only current problem but also futuristic problem.
