Your customer wants you to upgrade her system from a Pentium 4 1.2 GHz CPU to a Pentium 4 1.8 GHz CPU. What steps will you need to do to accomplish this?
A. You’ll need to replace the motherboard because these speeds aren’t compatible.
B. You’ll need to upgrade the BIOS to handle the newer processor.
C. You can merely replace the chip with no changes to the configuration.
D. You can’t upgrade in this situation.
Solution
C. To upgrade from a slower processor in the same family, you can generally just replace the processor. All other components should function normally. On a motherboard that requires bus speeds to be set manually, you may also have to change bus jumpers. This should be explained in the motherboard manual.
