A 400 mm rod AB is guided by wheels at A and B which roll in the track. Knowing that theta = 90 degree and that B moves at a constant speed of 1.2 m/s, determine (a) the angular velocity of the rod and (b) the velocity of A.
Solution
The relation at theta = 90 degrees is as follows:
(v_A/sin45) = (V_rod/sin90) = v_B/sin45
(v_A/sin45) = (V_rod/sin90) = 1.2/sin45
(a)
Therefore the velocity of the rod is as follows:
(V_rod/sin90) = 1.2/sin45
V_rod= (1.2/sin45)*sin90
V_rod= 1.697 m/s
(b)
Therefore, the velocity of end A is as follows:
v_A= (1.2/sin45)*sin45 = 1.2 m/s
