In a large package-distribution facility, there is a long, fast-moving conveyor. Occasionally, packages will jam up, requiring that the line be temporarily shut down to clear the jam. Assuming that the jam cannot be automatically detected, what is the best way to manually shut down the line? Telephone to the conveyor control station operator. A series of e-stop stations along the line. A power switch on the wall midway along the line. A cable push/pull switch with the cable running the full length of the line.
Solution
The best option to stop the conveyor immediately is to choose the option B; that is to apply a series of emergency-stops at regular intervals.
This method can be a little costly as compared to option C which is also a viable option but in that case, a delay in stopping the conveyor can lead to damage to the conveyor system as well as to the packages which can prove to be very costly.
