Can somemone please help me solve question for HW, Please show how you did it.

The sum of these three expressions: 5x + 8y + 2z, 8x - 2y - 7z, and -6x + 3y - 6z is equal to j*x + k*y + m*z. Determine j, k and m.

Solution

According to the given problem,

5x+8y+2z+8x-2y-7z-6x+3y-6z=j*x+k*y+m*z

(5x+8x-6x)+(8y-2y+3y)+(2z-7z-6z)= j*x+k*y+m*z                                     Group the like terms.

7x + 9y -11z = j*x+k*y+m*z                                                                       Combine the like terms.

Now, compare both sides of the equation for x, y and z to get the value of j, k and m.

So, 7x = jx. Hence j= 7

9y = ky. Hence, k = 9

-11z= mz. Hence z =-11
