Convert the following rectangular equation to a polar equati

Convert the following rectangular equation to a polar equation x=y^2.

Solution

x=rcos
y=rsin
rcos=(rsin)^2
rcos=r^2*sin^2
dividing both sides by r
we get,
cos=r*sin^2
dividing both sides by sin^2
cos/sin^2=r
or r=cot*csc
as cos/sin=cot and 1/sin=csc
