What are TWO possible receptorligand types Rank in order of
Solution
There are two types of receptors: extracellular and intracellular
Extracellular receptors are present on the plasma membrane. The ligand bind on the extracellular domain of the receptor and sends down a cascade of signal, from the receptor, to internediary proteins to the transcriptional factors, which then read the DNA and produce the required proteins. They are slow due to the presence of intermediaries, but the intensity due to amplification is higher.
Intracellular receptors are present inside the plasma membrane, mostly inside the nucleus. The ligand, usually hydrophobic, crosses the plasma membrane and bind to the receptor, which has a DNA-binding region to read the DNA and produce proteins. They are much faster but amplification is lower.
