A pebble with mass m is thrown straight up with an initial s

A pebble with mass m is thrown straight up with an initial speed v0 so that its maximum altitude is h. Where will it land? Discuss the difference between this case and one discussed in class of the pebble dropped from a height h.

Solution

time taken by the pebble from maximum height to reach the ground is

            t=   sqrt ( 2 h / g )

Horizontal distance covered by the pebble is

       R = vx t

            =vo   (sqrt ( 2 h / g ) )
