Define each type of chemical bond and where you would see such a bond. (define simply)
a) hydrogen bond.
b) phosphodiester bond
c) peptide bond
Solution
hydrogen bond is a weak bond between any two molecules resulting from an electrostatic attraction between a proton in one molecule and an electronegative atom in the other molecule. It is present in almost all molecules.
phosphodiester bond: a chemical bond that joins hydroxyl group at 3rd carbon of a sugar (3\'-OH) to phosphate group present at 5th carbon of another sugar (5\'-PO4). It is seen in backbone of nucleic acids like DNA and RNA.
peptide bond: a chemical bond that occurs between carboxyl group (-COOH) of one aminoacid and amino group (-NH3) of other aminoacid to form peptide bond (-CO-NH-). It has partial double bond character. It is seen between any two aminoacids in a peptide chain or protein.
