Below is a table describing blood pressure of 17 subjects at baseline and after one month of a diet rich in linoleic acid: What parametric test could be used to test for the effect of linoleic acid on SBP? Perform die test in a) and report a p-value. What nonparametric test could be used to test for the effect of linoleic acid on SBP? Perform the test in c) and report a p-value Compare your results in b) and d), and discuss which method you feel is more appropriate here?

Solution

a) Here we need to use paired t test. to test for the effect of linoleic acid on SBP

here both sample sizes are equal and both variables are dependent each other so we use paired t test

b)

Null hyp: There is no difference between means of SBA(A) and SBA(B)

Alternative hyp:   There is a difference between means of SBA(A) and SBA(B)

From SPSS

Conclusion: t cal 3.714

and p value=0.002 and alpha =0.05

p value < alpha, we reject the null hypothesis.

C)

Non parameteric test which is equivalent to paired t test is willcoxon test

D) Using SPSS

c. SBA_B = SBA_A

Conclusion : p value=0.004 and alpha=0.05, p< alpha we reject the nullhypothesis.
