{Exercise 13.21}

Consider the experimental results for the following randomized block design. Make the calculations necessary to set up the analysis of variance table.

Use = .05 to test for any significant differences. Show entries to 2 decimals, if necessary.

The p-value is

What is your conclusion?

Treatment
A B C
1 11 10 8
2 12 6 6
Blocks 3 19 15 15
4 21 18 19
5 8 7 9

Solution

P value at 5% level of significance is - F(2,8)=19.37, here calculated value is less than tabulated value, so we accept null hypothesis i.e. there is no signjficant diffefence between treatments. And F(4,8)=6.04, here calculated value is less than tabulated value, so we accept null hypothesis i.e. there is no signjficant diffefence between blocks.

Source of Variation Sum of Squares Degrees of Freedom Mean Square F
Treatments 1551.6 (3-1)=2 775.8 -13.17
Blocks -705.47 (5-1)=4 -176.37 2.99
Error -471.2 (15-5-3+1)=8 -58.9
Total 374.93 (15-1)=14
