The formula to the right can be used to approximate the numb

The formula to the right can be used to approximate the number of hours of daylight when the declination of the Sun is i^degrees at a location theta north latitude

Solution

D = 24[1 - cos^-1(tani*tantheta)/pi]

theta = 44deg54\' = 44.9 ;

a) summer solistice :i= 23.5

D = 24[ 1 - [cos^-1(0.996*0.4348)]/pi ]

= 15.42 hrs

b) i = 0

D = 24[ 1-cos^-1(0)/pi] = 24 [ 1-1/2] = 12 hrs

b) i = 22deg48\' = 22.8

D = 24[ 1- cos^-1(tan44.9*tan22.8)/pi ]

= 13.54 hrs

The formula to the right can be used to approximate the number of hours of daylight when the declination of the Sun is i^degrees at a location theta north latit
