Abstract

Coca-cola and Pepsi are two major beverages company of United States. Both the company have the products those are popular around the world. Although, coca cola is having old history, PepsiCo has also made itself popular among the customers. Both the companies are strong rivals of each other and are regularly using strategic policies to become the top producer of beverages. Both the companies are highly organized by regulations and legal rules.

Both the beverages are having the same characteristics in terms of taste, color, and ingredients. Cock is having camp of Coke lovers and PepsiCo is having the same of “Pepsi fans”. They are pleasing the consumers by enhancing their qualities and process of manufacturing. Although they are same in numerous way, there are find many dissimilarities too in terms of cultures, promotion policies, management style, leadership style, SWOT analysis, communication style, and strategic decision making.

Company Coca cola and Company PepsiCo

I will be analyzing the differences between these two companies on the basis of the following points provided below-

Company Culture and Performance

Both the companies are having difference in the time of their take off. On the one hand, coca cola became famous among the customers in 1990 and hold the market of beverages. But PepsiCo was introduced later and became strong player in the competition of beverages industry in late 1930. Coke was having extraordinary marketing approaches like free coupons of coca cola. Pepsi copied the idea and introduced its product in the same price and gave similar offers to the people. (McKelvey, 2006)

Promotional policies

Coke is using phrase like “coke side of life” to promote their produce and it can be seen on the website of the company. PepsiCo on the other hand, is using “hot stuff” as their tag line to promote the product. Coke has been using the promotional policies that attract the customers and let them buy the product with interest like free coke can. PepsiCo mostly follow the idea used by Coca Cola and is considered less innovative. (Yoffie, 2002)

Strategic decision making

Both the products have been using introduction of new products to be in market and to beat other competitors. Although the companies are introducing the same strategic decision making policies but they introduce it as new policies to make the difference.

Decision-Making Style

The decision making style used by Coca cola is conceptual while that used by the PepsiCo is impulsive. That is how they are making the difference between the two major beverages brands across the world. (McKelvey, 2006)

Management Style

While discussing management style of both the companies, Coca Cola is having up to date management style and which can be said superior to that of PepsiCo. Management of coca cola is much more innovative and efficient as compared to that of PepsiCo. Way of management used by the PepsiCo is also using proactive methods of marketing but they are lagged behind by the innovative approaches used by the management of the coca cola company. (Enrico, & Kornbluth, 1986)

Communication

Coca cola used companywide blog as the communication methods while PepsiCo used survey to know the feedback of their customers and employees. Communication plays vital role in making the value of the company among the customers as well as among the employees of the company itself.

Leadership style

Cola faces top management emigration in the face of political behavior and layoffs. And no internal candidates welcomed on top management positions. PepsiCo is focusing on selecting the internal candidate for top management position. Innovative leadership make the product always live and keep in the market by making certain additional changes according to the demand of the customers. (Yoffie, 2002)

Operations Strategy Framework

High level of centralization is an obstacle in the operation strategy framework of coca cola while PepsiCo is having too much decentralization which is creating obstacle in the operational strategy execution. (Enrico, & Kornbluth, 1986)

Use of SWOT tool

Coca cola is having innovative management and early hold on market as the strength of it while the PepsiCo is having its strong promotional strategies as its strength. Coke and PepsiCo’s are having same weakness as being low ethical to the environment and consuming lots of water. They are rivals to each other and there is no external threat because of high cost of entry in the industry. (Enrico, & Kornbluth, 1986)

Impact of potential change factors including Changing External Conditions

It is expected that Pepsi will be growing in the upcoming marketing trends because of emerging markets. Company is in practice of launching global marketing strategies. US is becoming the top marketplace for both the companies in spite of having similar marketing and strategic approaches implemented by the companies.

Similarly, major of the business of Coca cola relies on emerging markets. Coke is betting greatly prosperous middle class people who are creating new customers in markets straddling from Asia to Africa.
