A What is x B If the block were to reach the top of the trac

A: What is x?

B: If the block were to reach the top of the track, what would be its speed at that point?

C: Does the block actually reach the top of the track?

Solution

1/2 k x2 = 1/2 m v2

x = sqrt [m / k] * v

= sqrt [0.600 / 450] * 13.1

x = 0.478 m

-----------------------------------------------

From work energy theorm

-friction * pi R = 1/2 mvT2 + mg 2R - 1/2 mvB2

-7 * pi = 0.600/2 VT2 + (0.5 * 9.8 * 2) - 0.600/2 * 13.12

-22 = 0.300 VT2 + 9.8 - 51.5

VT2 = 65.66

VT = 8.10 m/s

-----------------------------------------------

v = sqrt [R g] = sqrt [1 * 9.8 ]

= 3.13 m/s

block stays on track

A: What is x? B: If the block were to reach the top of the track, what would be its speed at that point? C: Does the block actually reach the top of the track?S
