An idealised engine mount frame consisting of four pinjointe

An idealised engine mount frame, consisting of four pin-jointed truss members 1-2, 1-3, 1-4 and 1-5, is shown in Figure Q1(a). The supports at points 2, 3, 4 and 5 are fixed on the circumference of the vertical firewall of diameter 1 m and point 1 is at a horizontal distance of 1 m perpendicular from the vertical plane of the firewall. The engine mount frame is symmetrical about the vertical y-z plane as shown in Figure 1(b). All the truss members have the same value of cross-sectional area A and Young\'s modules E. (a) Using the finite element method of structural analysis, find the deflection of point 1 in terms of member properties if an engine load of 300 kN is applied vertically downward at point 1 as shown. (b) Calculate the member forces and state whether members are in tension or compression.
