The applied dose is which is available for the absorption by the surface. It is not necessray that all of the applied dose is absorbed by the surface.

Internal dose the amont of a compund that is absorbed by the body by penetrating an barrier such as skin, eyes, respiratory tract etc. The internal dose is the amount that stays in your body. This can be diffrenet from the total dose (Applied dose) due to elimination in the form of urine.
