Please explain this in detail. Thank you
1) Why do endosymbionts tend to have very small genomes?
2) Why might scientists apply economic theory to understanding mutualisms and how they trade resources? Use an example mutualism
Solution
(1)Endosymbionts is any organism that lives within the body or cells of another organism. They also tend to have highly reduced genomes compared to their free-living relatives. The genome of endosymbiont is reduced due to deletions of genes not needed to live in the host. They depend on the proteins encoded by the nuclear genome. Parts of the endosymbiont genome can also be transferred to the host as well, leading to further genome reduction.
