One of the disorders that falls in this category which is lesser known is Rheumatic heart disease.This disease occurs as a result of rheumatic fever caused by streptococcal bacteria.The occurence of this disease damages the valves of the heart, leads to heart failure, pericarditis and in chronic stage causes regurgitation, atrial dilation, arrhythmias, ventricular dysfunction and ultimate death of the patient. In the United States,Chronic rheumatic heart disease often results in mitral valve stenosis and valve replacement in affected patients.
