The circuit below has three resistors. If the potential of the battery is 5 volts, what is the current through R2?
R1 = 2 ohms, R2 = 3 ohms, R3 = 2 ohms

Solution

SOLUTION

From the circuit, R1 and R2 are parallel to each other and are in series to R3

For a series set, V = V1 + V2

Total resistance = {R2 R1 / R2 +R1} + R3 = (6/5) + 2 = 3.2 Ohms

Current = V/ R

5/3.2 = 1.56A

Current thro\' R3 is equal to that R1 and R2

Voltage through R1 and R2

V = IR = 1.56 * 6/5 = 1.872 V

therefore current through R2 is given by, I2= V/R2 = 1.872 /3

= 0.624 A

The circuit below has three resistors. If the potential of the battery is 5 volts, what is the current through R2? R1 = 2 ohms, R2 = 3 ohms, R3 = 2 ohmsSolution
