NREL reported that it takes 150 kwh/m^2 to make frameless PV panel; another 100 kwh/m^2 to install and collect to grid. Assuming 10% energy conversion efficiency and 1200 kwh/m^2 per year of available sunlight Find: Energy Payback Period in years EROI for 30 year life of PV panel EROI for 15 year life of PV panel

Solution

Total available energy per year = 10% of 1200 =120 kwh/m^2

Total energy invested for 1 PV = 150 + 120 = 270 kwh/m^2

(i) Therefore energy payback time = 270/120 =2.25 years

(ii) Total energy delivered in 30 years = 30*120 =3600 kwh/m^2

therefore, EROI = 3600/270 =13.33

(ii) In 15 years, total energy delivered = 15*120 =1800 kwh/m^2

therefore, EROI = 1800/270 =6.67

NREL reported that it takes 150 kwh/m^2 to make frameless PV panel; another 100 kwh/m^2 to install and collect to grid. Assuming 10% energy conversion efficien
