In an effort to get a tree burl out of the forest, Bob and Mo are pulling with both of their trucks. Bob pulls with 1500 pounds of force and MO pulls with 1000 pounds of force. The angle between their chains is 40 degree. Use the given information and the diagram below to respond to the following questions. a. Find the force vector for Bob. b. Find the force vector for Mo.

Solution

a. force vector for Bob

Force,F= 1500 lb

and theta=20 degree

Fx= F cos theta=1500 cos 20=1409.54 lb

Fy= F sin theta =1500 sin 20= 513.03 lb

Therefore force vector is = Fxi +Fyj=1409.54 i + 513.03 j

b. force vector for Mo

force,F=1000 lb

theta=-20 degree

Fx=1000 cos (-20 ) = 939.69

Fy=1000sin(-20)= -342.02

Force vector is = 939.69i -342.02j
