Bombay Phenotype is a rare ABO group that results from the inheritence of 2 recessive h genes.
In normal ABO system the H substance is the precursor of A and B antigen.The B alleles produce an enzyme that modifies the H antigen to become B antigen.It is same in case of A allele.
If only recessive h antigen is inherited then H substance will not be produced .As a result A and B antigens will not form.This results in the formation of O phenotype or Bombay phenotype.
