A city contains 100000 people 45000 males and 55000 females

A city contains 100,000 people (45,000 males and 55,000 females), and1,000 people die per year (600 males and 400 females). There were 50 cases(40 males and 10 females) of lung cancer per year, of whom 45 died (36 malesand 9 females). Compute:

A) SEX-AND-CAUSE SPECIFIC (LUNG CANCER) MORTALITY RATES

B) SEX-SPECIFIC CASE FATALITY RATE FOR LUNG CANCER

Solution

(A)

The sex and cause specific mortality rate for lung cancer patient is defined as

mLi = (No. of deaths due to cause L in community i in a given year)/

                   (Size of the community I suffering from L) * k

Where k is a suitable multiplier

Now,

mMaleL = (36/40)*100 = 90

mFemaleL = (9/10)*100 = 90

(B)

The sex specific case fatality rate for lung cancer is defined as

CFRLi = (No. of deaths due to cause L in community i in a given year)/

                             (Total no. of people belonging to community i) *k

Where k is a suitable multiplier.

Then

CFRLMale = (36/45000) *100000 = 80

CFRLFemale = (9/55000)*100000 = 16.36

A city contains 100,000 people (45,000 males and 55,000 females), and1,000 people die per year (600 males and 400 females). There were 50 cases(40 males and 10
