Should people be allowed to sell kidneys in the U.S.? How should we measure the gains and losses? In general, are markets always the preferred solution? Why or why not?

Solution

Organ donation should be allowed in the country and be made legal and voluntary. This however must not be converted into a tradition market for a commodity. Rather the people should be made aware of the benefits and gains an organ donation may give to the receiver. The awareness should be a positive campaign towards achievement of a healthy and trustworthy and caring society. The professionals like doctors and nurses must not be allowed to convert this voluntary donation into a traditional industry.

The gains and losses can be measured by considering the addition in the living years of the receiver and reduction in the life years if any of the donor. The markets here can never be a preferred solution as the organ donation such as kidney donation will always be voluntary and a market for it will invite or may sometimes even force an individual to donate. A market has a characterstic of profits and losses whereas organ donation is voluntary and must not be made for profits but out of care and feeling for humanity
