Use systematic sampling selecting every second number from the population to identify five schools out of the ten as a sample. The following random numbers table has already been used to randomly select the first school, Arizona State. What are the other four schools in the sample?

Solution

Since we are selecting every second number so moving from left to right, second number after 2 is 1. Now in the next row second number is 9 , after that 7, then 8. So selcted schools in the sample are:

1: Arizona

9: Washington

7: UCLA

8: USC
