a A mass of 400 kg is to be raised by the actuation of TWO i

(a) A mass of 400 kg is to be raised by the actuation of TWO identical hydraulic cylinders with a piston diameter of 120 mm. Calculate the required system pressure to just raise the load. (b) If the load is to be raised 600 mm in 10 seconds, what will be the required flowrate (Q) in l min-1

Solution

a-) wheight = 400 kg x 9.81 = 3924 N
the Area of each piston=(pi x 0.12^2)/4=0.01131 msqr
3924=P x 2A then P=3924/2A , P=1962/( 2*0.01131) =173475 N per msqr = 1.73 bar

B) Piston velocity ( m/s )= Q (m^3/s) / piston area

600 mm in 10 sec = 60 mm in 1 sec = 0.6 m / sec

so 0.6 = Q / 0.01131

then, Q=0.6 x 0.01131=0.006786 m^3/s

for 2 pistons =2 x 0.006786=0.013572 m^3/s = 13.586 lit /s =13.576 x 60 = 815.16 lit / min

(a) A mass of 400 kg is to be raised by the actuation of TWO identical hydraulic cylinders with a piston diameter of 120 mm. Calculate the required system press
