The following shows the peak rainfall in Amherst. 6.88 3.48 2.08 2.69 3.89 2.41 2.83 5.29 8.20 9.03 Suppose a rainfall of 7 inches and above issues Hood warnings (FW=Level 2), a rainfall of 3.5 inches and above and less than 7 inches issues Hood advisor)\' (FA= Level 1), and a rainfall less than 3.5 inches does not issue Hood (FN=Level 0). Fill out the following pmf table. Calculate the probability that issues either flood advisory or warning Calculate the expected levels of flood

Solution

a) no flood < 3.5 then the total number is 5

p(no flood) = 5/10= 0.5

1st advisory is >3.5 but <7 then number will be 3

probability (1st advisory) = 3/10=0.3

flood warning>7 then total number will be 2

p(flood warning )= 2/10 = 0.2

b)flood avisory case is 3 and flood warning is 2

as OR is there in the question then we will add them and find the probability

hence the probability = 5/10=0.5

c)expected = x*p(x)+...

as flood is >7

therefore E(X)= 8.20*1/10+9.03*1/10

= 0.82+0.90 = 1.72
