How many 8-ounce glasses of fluid should a 24-pound child have each day? The 24-pound child should drink about 8-ounce glasses of fluid each day. (Simplify your answer. Round to the nearest glass as needed.)

Solution

As per the standard guidelines, a child weighing over 10 kg should have1000 ml of fluid plus 50 ml for each full kg over 10 kg per day. Now, 24lbs = 24*0.453592 = 10.8862 kg. say 11 kg. ( on rounding off to the nearest whole number) . Thus , a 24 lb child should take 1000+50 = 1050 ml of fluid per day. Further, 1050 ml = 1050 * 0.0338 = 35.49 oz. = 8*(35.49/8) = 8*4.436 oz.
