Unable to attach following question to the Red Bird Yellow B
Unable to attach following question to the Red Bird, Yellow Bird, Blue Bird, and Black Bird question/answer already posted. Blue Bird answer was not posted, and here is the relevant data, if I could get an answer. Blue Bird\'s graph is not attached, but its trajectory is (o,26), with a maximum height of 13. Can someone help solve this please?
Solution
It appears from the given data that the flight path of the Blue Bird starts at the point ( 0,0) and ends at (26.0) after reaching a height of 13 yards. Thus the vertex of the parabola (Blue Bird\'s flight path) is (13,13). Let the equation of the parabola is y = a (x-13)2 + 13. Now, this parabola passes throgh the points ( 0,0), (13,13) and (26,0) . On substituting x = 0 and y =0 in this equation, we get 0 = a(-13)2 + 13 or, 169a = -13 or, a = -1/13.( we can substitute any of the other 2 values for (x,y). The result will be same. Thus the Blue Bird\'s flight path\'s equation is y = -1/13( x - 13)2 + 13.
The line of symmetry is x = 13. The horizontal distance travelled by Blue Bird is 26 yards. The vertical distance travelled by Blue Bird is 13 yards ( Given). Now, since the equations of the flight paths of all four birds are available, it can easily be determined as to which bird\'s flight path touches the position of the 2 pigs. For this, we only have to substitute their co-ordinates in the equations.
Hint: We know the maximum vertical distances travelled by the four birds. The y-co-ordinate of the target pig\'s position should be less than this vertical distance.
