The formula for count rate v is v nt where n is the number
The formula for \"count rate\" (v) is v = n/t (where n is the number of events counted and t is the time interval).
An experiment counts events at an average rate of 1000 events per second (or 1000 Hz). If a student wants to count an average of 50 events per sample, how long should the sample time be?
Solution
Count rate v = n/t
Given v = 1000 events per second
n = 50 events
==> 1000 = 50/t
==> t = 50/1000
==> t = 0.05
Hence the sample time should be 50 milli seconds.
