In CSF(cerebrospinal fluid ) , CO₂ gets hydrolized, thereby releasing H⁺.

An increase in CO₂ therefore consquently increases H+ in (CSF) which stimulates the nerve cells neurons causing hyperventilation to restore normal levels pH and CO₂.
