1310 In Fig P1310 the shaft with the arm is the output shaft

13-10 In Fig. P13-10, the shaft with the arm is the output shaft. For onc counterclockwise turn of the lower shaft, which contains gears A and H, determine the number of turns and the direction of rotation for the output shant.

Solution

CONSIDER LEFT HAND SIDE GEARS OF THE SYSTEM:-

H70 / G40 gives a gear ratio of 1.75

This means the gear F50 will be making 1.75 turns (CLOCKWISE) for a single turn of the lower shaft.

CONSIDER RIGHT HAND SIDE GEARS OF THE SYSTEM:-

A40 / B20 gives a gear ratio of 2 and B20 / C30 gives a gear ratio of 0.66

This means the gear D10 will be making 1.33 turns (COUNTERCLOCKWISE) for a single turn of the lower shaft.

NET EFFECT:-

The shaft with the arm will be rotating CLOCKWISE with number of turns = 1.75 - 1.33 = 0.42 (ANSWER)

13-10 In Fig. P13-10, the shaft with the arm is the output shaft. For onc counterclockwise turn of the lower shaft, which contains gears A and H, determine the
