Describe how you could test whether a patient has Type I or Type II diabetes and how this would affect their treatment?

Diabetes, also known as blood sugar is a disease which occurs due to the increased blood sugar level. Blood sugar is the main source of energy which comes from the kind of food we intake on daily basis. Insulin is the hormone which is responsible to absorbing glucose, so that it can be used by the cells for energy production.

            Generally there are two kinds of diabetes, namely diabetes type I and diabetes type II. Sometimes, clinically it becomes very difficult to differentiate between the two types of diabetes, minor symptoms has to be observed keenly in order to differentiate between the two types of diabetes.

Diabetes Type-I- type I diabetes occurs when the human body fails to produce insulin in our body which helps in absorbing glucose in our body, so that it is taken up the cells for energy production. Immune system of our body destroys the pancreatic islets cells that produce insulin.

Common symptoms observed are- extreme thirst, blurred vision, loss of appetite, fruity odor and breath

Diabetes Type-II- type II diabetes occurs when the body does not produce insulin or is not in the state to make use of the insulin produced. Type-II is the most common type of diabetes.

Common symptoms observed are-Increased thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, loss of appetite, sores and cut does not heal quickly. The blood glucose level in Fasting Plasma Glucose test is 126 mg/dl or more.

Usually type-I diabetes is non curable. Type-I diabetes is very common in young age. Slowly the pancreatic cells are destroyed. Various immunosuppressive drugs are given to keep the blood glucose level I control along with healthy life style.

Type-II diabetes is common in elder people. Various tablets are prescribed by the doctors which helps in keeping the blood sugar in control followed by regular exercise and proper diet.
