suppose tantheta 7 find costheta and sintheta in quadrant 2
suppose tan(theta)= 7, find cos(theta) and sin(theta) in quadrant 2 and 3.(pi/2 <= theta < 3pi/2)
Solution
tan = 7
sec2 = 1 + 49 = 50
sec = ± 52
cos = -1/(52)
as cos is negative in betwenn /2 and 3/2
: sin = sqrt [ 1 - 1/50 ] = -7/(52) ±as sin can be both posiitve and negative in that interval
but as tan is +ve , there fore sin is also negative as cos is surely negative
