Question 2. Find the total, the volatile and fixed solids, given the following data:

-Weight of dish, 48.6212

-100mL of sample is placed in dish and evaporated. Weight of dish and dry solids, 48.6432g

-Dish is placed in 600C furnace, then cooled. Weight, 48.6300g

Solution

volatile solids:- solids which gets evaporated when heated above 600 celcious.

fixed solids:- solids which are remained when heated above 600 celcious.

weight of dish = 48.6212 g

weight of dry solids = (48.6432-48.6212)=0.022 g

weight of dry solids = weight of fixed solids + weight of volatile solids

weight of fixed solids = ( 48.6300-48.6212) = 0.0088 g

weight of volatile solids = (0.022-0.0088) = 0.0132 g
