How does Fluvoxamine drugs action increase the amount of serotonin present in the synaptic left, and how would this affect an individual with depression?
Solution
Fluvoxamine is antidepressant and pharmocologically selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. It increases the amount of neurotransmitter mainly serotonin present in the synaptic cleft which is associated with its psychiatric effects. These drugs block the transporter proteins involved in the serotonin reuptake from the synaptic cleft which then activates serotonin receptor to a great extent.Generally Flavoxamine inhibit their own metabolism, which leads to dispropotionate increase in plasma levels at higher doses. So precaution should taken to take reduced levels of Fluvoxamine. Common side effects are drowsiness, nausea, headache, incresed sweating etc.Because of stimulant effect of serotonin these drug was taken in the morning. This is major antidepressant decraesing the levels of depression by increasing the levels of serotonin.
