If sludge is intermittently discharged from tank at flow rate Q_intermit. of 400 m³/h for period of 3 minutes each 15 minutes (t_cycle), what is net discharge rate per hour?

Given intermitent discharge rate=400m³/h for 3 minutes duration and this lasts for 15 minutes

rate of flow of water for 3 minutes duration = 400 m³/h=400/60=6.67 m³/min

volume of water flown in 3 minutes = 3*6.67= 20 m³

20m³ of water is allowed to flow for each 15 minutes cycle.

Total number of cycles in one hour(60 minutes)=60/15=4

Total volume of water allowed to flow in one hour = 20*4=80 m³

Therefore, net discharge rate per hour = 80 m³/hr
