The combined pills (oral or injectable) include the reproductive hormones estrogens and progesterone. When we artificially supply these hormones to the body, the increased hormone concentration inhibit the release of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) from the hypothalamus. This inhibits the release of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and the luteinizing hormone (LH) from the anterior pituitary. Thus, the maturation of ovum and release of ovum is inhibited.
