other kinds of ecosystems elsewhere in the universe? Speculate on the type of

organisms that might evolve based on that energy source. What would be the

characteristics of the primary producers (the organisms that trap the energy)? How

can the energy be transferred to the rest of the food chain? What would a planet, where

such organisms evolved, be like?

iv) The components present in the cosmic ray are absorbed by primary producer. Primary consumer by eating the primary producer absorbed their organic substances and metabolizes them. Secondary consumer behaves quite similarly eating the previous organism. In this way this process goes on from one category organism to another. The transfer of energy through the food chain determines some heat to be lost into the environment according to the thermodynamics which indicates that secondary consumer will have less energy than primary consumer and primary consumer have less energy than producer.

This transfer of energy from one trophic level to next is called efficiency of food chain.
