Smoking in public places is a offense. Public place means any place to which people have access, it does not include any open area. The public place means Hospitals, auditorium, library,restaurants, airport, court buildings, educational institutions, banks,railway waiting rooms,coffee houses, amusement centres etc. According to section 4 of COPTA (Cigarette and other Tobocco product Act) 2003 Smoking in public places is prohibited. When tobocco smoke breath or absorbed into a body, it directly enters into our blood stream. So smoking causes severe health problems to the person who smoked it, and also to the neighbours. According to WHO 12% of world smokers are Indians.The amendment made in 2015 on anti smoking is Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and commerce, produvtion, supply and distribution.India became part of WHO framework convention on tobocco control on Feb 2005. Violence of Sec 4 is a punishable offense with a fine declared by Union government.In recent days the awareness created on the cigarrete smoking and its adverse effects in cinema halls, and in telivision before the movie started.
