You are given $893 in one, five, and ten dollar bills. There are 165 bills. There are twice as many five-dollar bills as there ones and tens combined. How many bills of each type are there?
Solution
Let x is the number of $1 bills , y is the number of $5 bills and so (165-x-y) is the number of $10 bills .
We have also (165- x -y) + x = 2y
=> y = 55
Now, also x($1) + y($5) + (165 - x - y)($10) = $893
=> x + 275 + (1650 - 10 - 550)=893
=> 9x = 16550 -550 -893 +275
=> x = 482/9 = 53.55
So, the data is wrong .
